Synopsis: The remake of the classic stage play by Tennessee Williams is being helmed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, a veteran in both the stage and screen world. Paul Haggis' brilliant talent should do justice to Williams' signature style, and Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore gets back to his SNL roots by bringing us the jazz of the big easy with the score.

What the press would say:

After all the Marlon Brando comparisons, it seems appropriate that Heath Ledger would follow his Brokeback Mountain success with the remake of Brando's breakthrough role. Reese Witherspoon seems the perfect fit to portray the classic Southern belle character of Blanche, but we're more interested in the way that the producers seem to be sticking to the stage version and not remaking the Elia Kazan classic.

With Mendes directing, a winner of both the Academy award and Laurence Olivier theatre awards for best director, and Paul Haggis writing the screenplay, this just might turn out to be a faithful adaptation of the play caught on the silver screen. The film could potentially be up for the following Oscars.
